[1] n.d., July 27, Hickory Farm, Lee, Mass., to Miss Smith [ALS.].--Spending time with her family on a Berkshire farm. "We are busy & we have [illeg.]'s tutor who is teaching us all the most interesting things: microscopic plants & creatures, ornithology, dissection of small animals & a thousand things worth knowing." [2] 1888, May 13, Marion [Mass.], to Miss Smith [ALS.].--Expressions of sympathy for her loss. "...This seems to me peculiarly hard to bear to lose everything you care most for ...." Describes recent visit of Mrs. Cleveland. [3] 1888, Dec. 17, New York, to Mrs.-- [TL., copy].--Refutes stories circulating that Pres. Grover Cleveland is unkind to his wife. Mrs. Cleveland is a close friend and Mrs. Gilder "can affirm as truly as of my own life that there is nothing, absolutely nothing to justify these tales."
